Apocalyptic World (Study #3)

From the Apocalyptic World Series, Apocalyptic Angel (Study #2) (2017) is created in walnut and echoes common themes of the female form, winged angels, but with a resilience and the stark beauty of nature on the cusp of destruction. This piece portrays more resilience than Study #1

Product Description

From the Apocalyptic World Series, this is the second study of two Apocalyptic Angels. Created over the summer in 2017 in his studio in Zagreb, Lupino reinterprets earlier work such as the Centurion – a piece in wood and metal. In contrast to Apocalyptic Angel Study #1, this Angel is prepared to stand her ground. Her stance communicates purpose and defiance in the face of the coming tumult, an echo of the power and force of the Roman Armies from a previous era. Lupino captures the tension of the beauty of the natural human body fused in a beautiful patinated walnut wood medium. The golden bronze colour complements the strident pose and readiness of the figure to face an apocalyptic outcome.
